Over the years, I have tried many different kinds of detoxes including raw food, juice, and even an Ayurvedic cleanse where I drank medicated ghee every morning! All of my cleanses were great, and brought some relief, but it pales in comparison to the results that I got from doing the deeper work of healing my liver and gallbladder!

One day, deep in the jungle of Costa Rica, I was serendipitously introduced to The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush book, and a superhero named Ryan, who had just completed a series of 12 flushes and utterly transformed his whole body. He was vibrant, glowing and spoke so passionately about the cleanses and how they saved his life. I took this as a sign, read the whole book in less than 2 days and ordered the supplies for the cleanse right away so I could begin as soon as I got home. The picture below is of me the morning after my first flush!

Liver Love

Weighing 3-4 lbs, the liver is the largest internal organ. It is the cornerstone of about 500 different functions in the body including detoxification, blood formation, blood sugar regulation, defending the body against infection and hormone function. As important as the liver is to our wellbeing, it is often overlooked and ignored when probing for the root cause of disease. However, it remains true that wherever disease and disorder exist, you will also find an unhealthy liver.

During digestion, the liver secretes bile into our small intestine, alkalinizing and lubricating the digestive tract. Bile is an essential ingredient in the recipe of healthy digestion and without it, we leave our bodies at risk for nutritional deficiencies and overgrowth of bad bacteria. The release of bile also stimulates peristalsis, which moves fecal material out of the body.

However, due to many factors, including consumption of processed foods, red meat, alcohol, drugs, and seemingly less harmful habits like overeating and snacking between meals, our livers and gallbladders become completely backed up!

What we need to realize is that we are not invincible. Sure, our livers can tolerate much abuse when we are younger, but as the toxic bile continues to build up, it forms stones. These stones accumulate in our liver and gallbladder and cause all sorts of problems in the body.

Signs and symptoms of poor liver function:

  • Acne and other skin conditions such as eczema, hives, itching or rashes
  • Jaundice (yellow skin)
  • Intolerance to cold in winter & may suffer chills especially after meals
  • Yellowing of the whites of eyes
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Hormonal imbalances in women (irregular periods, loss of sex drive, fertility issues, PMS)
  • Either overweight or underweight with malnourishment
  • Alternating diarrhea and constipation
  • Headaches, dizziness, and shivering
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diabetes
  • Eating disorders
  • One or several deep lines and/or swollen puffiness between your eyebrows.

How many of these do you have? Is it time for a cleanse?

Luckily, our liver is very forgiving if we do our part to change our lives and to start working with our bodies instead of against them!

Next Level Self-Care

Most of us go through our whole lives without even thinking twice about our liver and gallbladder, let alone committing the time and energy into cleansing them! However, in her book, The Body Ecology Diet, author Donna Gates states that liver cleanses “are one of the most important cleanings you will ever go through.”

This is the cleanse of all cleanses because without clearing and supporting the elimination pathway first, other cleanses can do more harm than good.

Here is an interview with Andreas Mortiz, the author of The Amazing Liver Gallbladder Cleanse and one of the pioneers in the world of detoxification.

If you are considering doing this cleanse, I HIGHLY recommend reading Andreas Mortiz’ book as it will help you to understand not just what to do but WHY you are doing it. The more we understand about our health, the more empowered choices we can make to take better care of ourselves.

It is Better Out Than In!

After my first flush, I released HUNDREDS of bright, pea-green stones that are made up of cholesterol. I could not believe what came out of me so; I took a picture of them to show you!

gillian-b-gallstones-2 Through a series of cleanses, people can quickly release thousands of stones in different shapes and sizes. These green stones are primarily made of cholesterol! Good riddance, I am so happy to have them out of me!

The thing with these cleanses is that you do not just want to do one. It is a process in which with each cleanse you shift and release more and more stones. In fact, you are better off not doing them at all if you are only going to do one because starting this process stirs up toxins and moves the stones towards the Colon to be released. It is recommended that you complete a flush every 3-4 weeks until you have 2 cleanses that are entirely clear of stones. After that, it is recommended that you flush every 6 months for general maintenance of health!

I have to say that this cleanse is definitely something that I am committed to seeing through until the end! At the time of writing this, I have done 2 flushes, and I am preparing to do the next one. I already feel so much better. My skin is glowing, my energy is through the roof, I do not feel as bloated as I did before and I find that my blood sugar is more stable between meals!

Being the health nut that I am, I must say that I am SO excited to see how I feel when I am all cleaned out!
