This unconventional way of being buried might just be the future. The idea of coming full circle and returning whence we came from is one that appeals to many of us; this is an idea captured perfectly by these two programs.

Another new burial method developed in Italy is called  Capsula Mundi Project. This envision is the inspiration by designers Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel, they are both creative artists and ascended this idea as an exhibit. Developing an organic, biodegradable burial capsule that will turn the deceased’s body into nutrients for a tree that will produce out of their remains. The project is designed to encapsulate the deceased in a fetal position. Virtually bringing back the emplacement of originating in the divine womb.

The image above is a display of the project in Jaffa, Israel. Very fascinating, here is how it works!

The structure of the deceased is situated in a pod made of starch-based plastic. This pod is 100% biodegradable and is buried in the ground.

A seed or a young tree is planted above the pod, and as the roots grow down, the tree will use the provided life force to develop.

An incredible part of these alternative burial innovations are the changes they make on our Modern Western view of death. Imagine being able to take your children to a picnic next to the tree that grew from your great-grandmother. Envisage allowing your kids to run freely and have fun in the area where your descendants were buried. This possibility is beautiful, and it can happen in a forest made from our past.
