Have you ever heard anyone say, “I’m just a perfectionist”? Probably not in that way. But when you compare a perfectionist to someone with obsessive-compulsive disorder, you’re really talking about different personality types.

Many people call themselves perfectionists or OCD or even “anal” without really knowing what those terms mean. This is especially true with it comes to the OCD title. People tend to throw around phrases like, “Oh my gosh, I am so OCD” without really understanding what obsessive-compulsive disorder really refers to.

According to Psychology Today, “Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).”

OCD is something that cannot be controlled. In fact, it’s an obsession that, if not treated correctly, could seriously impact a person’s work, home, and/or social life.
