Ugh, cockroaches.

There’s a saying I like – If nuclear war ever decimated life on this planet as we know it, only Keith Richards and cockroaches would survive.

It’s funny but it hits home a very true point regarding cockroaches’ hardiness and ability to survive in even the most extreme conditions. For example, after the United States bombed Japan in 1945, reports emerged that cockroaches were among the only survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

A bit closer to home, it’s a known fact that cockroaches can survive in absolutely crazy conditions — They can even live without a head.

So what does this mean for the near-eternal effort of humans to get roaches out of homes and other buildings? Have the roaches won the fight?

No! We will not be defeated. Rather, we will crush these little insects with…

The Trick To Getting Rid Of Cockroaches

Our cockroach-be-gone potion comes from a substance that might actually be surprising to you. It’s not something you normally think of as being deadly.

An egg. Check it out!

This trick will require the following items:

  • A bowl
  • A fork
  • 100% boric acid
  • Sugar
  • Eggs

First, you’ll want to boil the eggs for 12-15 minutes. Then, remove the shell. Be careful, they will be hot!

Next, remove the yolks. Put them in a separate container. They’re what you’ll be mixing the boric acid with. Discard the whites. Mix the yolks with the boric acid. (You’ll want to use a total of 2.5 oz of boric acid  for this recipe.)

Then, add in between half a cup and a full cup of sugar – this will help with the consistency of the final product. Keep adding sugar until it is no longer crummy. You want it to be like play-dough.

By the way, don’t worry – This substance is completely safe for you to touch and handle. If you have curious children or pets, however, I strongly recommend you be careful about where you leave this, as, although it’s safe to touch, it is certainly not safe to put in your mouth.

Once you’ve got the play-dough consistency, form the mixture into balls and place them all around your house. Put them everywhere — kitchen cabinets, shelves and closets. Pay special attention to the bathroom, as this is one spot of your home roaches love because it’s wet and usually dark.

Once you’ve spread the weapons of roach destruction around your home, wait.

Soon enough, you’ll notice plenty of dead cockroaches around your house. If the sight of them makes you squirm, it would be a good time to buy a Roomba.
