One of my favorite things to do after my evening shower is to hop in bed without socks and feel the cool chill of my bedsheets as I finally relax for the day.

I know at least a few of you have to be nodding your heads right now. It’s an amazing feeling, isn’t it?

Well if knocking your socks off helps you unwind, you might want to consider taking things a bit further and exposing those sheets to even more bare skin.

There’s more to it than just airing out – read on to learn about 7 health benefits you can get from sleeping naked.

1. More Comfortable Sleep

You know how your clothes get twisted and tangled sometimes when you sleep? That’s really not good for you – it’s so bad, in fact, that it could very well lead to poor circulation in severe cases.

I hope those jeans aren’t too tight, Doug.

That’s not a problem when you sleep naked. Your body is free to move around without being constricted by tight clothing.

2. You’ll Look Young Forever

Seriously! A 2012 study found that when your body gets a deeper sleep, it’s better able to restore itself, even improving athletic function.

And how exactly do you get a deep sleep? By maintaining a temperature between 60 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit according to a 2008 study.

Ditching the clothes is a great way to accomplish this, one that certainly beats out reaching for that thermostat in light of the other benefits.

3. Lose Weight

OR just sleep naked…

Stress causes body fat – but what reduces stress? A good night’s sleep, of course!

Cortisol, the stress hormone, should be at its lowest between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. but if your body cannot get a good rest – say, because your clothes are making you too hot – it will cause you to be more stressed and anxious during the day.

Ditch the clothes, get a better night sleep, be more relaxed during the day and lose weight. Win all around!

4. Better Sex

Having full body, skin-to-skin contact has been found in a study to increase emotional and physical intimacy between couples. This can, of course, lead to happier relationships.

Further, skin to skin contact with your partner by sleeping in the nude will increase the release of oxytocin – also known as the love hormone. This increases sexual responsiveness and intensifies orgasms.

5. Healthier Private Parts

Nicole Prause, Associate Research Scientist at the University of California Los Angeles, told Medical Daily that sleeping in the nude can help women ventilate their bodies and reduce the risk of vaginal bacteria causing infections.

For men, sleeping naked has been found to protect sperm quality due to the increase in airflow and reduced temperatures.

6. It’s Easier To Get The Day Started!

Knowing you’ve got to get out of your pyjamas, fold them and put them away is like knowing you have one more thing to add to that already bulging morning list. I know that’s how it goes for me!

But just think of how much time you could save in the morning if you just hopped straight into the shower or into the fresh clothes you laid out the night before.

So what does it for you? Which point on this list has convinced you to shed that cotton and free your body at night? Let us know in the comments!
