Drinking tea provides many health benefits. Next to water, tea is the most imbibed beverage in the world. Certain herbal teas target specific neurological or physiological systems. If you’re specifically looking to slim down, these six teas will prove the most effective results.

Herbal teas can be enjoyed either hot or cold and you can add your favorite spice or flower to enhance flavor.

Whichever your fancy, these “miracle” teas will help you lose weight and feel great. Enjoy!

1. Green

By far the most popular, and often labeled the healthiest, green tea tops my list of the best teas for dropping pounds. Loaded with polyphenols and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), both very powerful antioxidants, this tea will quickly burn fat and block the absorption of carbohydrates. With caffeine as it’s active ingredient this fast-acting tea will stimulate your mind and body.

According to Healthy Women, the weight loss benefits are maximized when tea is enjoyed hot. Taking a green tea extract will give you the same advantage. On its own, green tea is quite tasty but I like to enjoy mine with a touch of lemon.

2. Oolong

Much like green tea, oolong is full of EGCGs that work to increase fat oxidation. This tea helps regulate blood sugar to lower cravings, reduces abdominal fat and will aid in keeping off the weight once it’s gone by blocking fat building enzymes. Oolong tea can also strengthen teeth and fight acne.

Some think it has a bit of a bitter taste so blend in a little raw, organic honey and boiled rose water for a delicious, fat-burning delight.

3. Peppermint

My personal, early-morning favorite. Even though, Livestrong.com once noted how drinking peppermint tea won’t make you “magically shed pounds,” it will however get you moving. Make with either fresh or dried leaves, this tea will awaken your senses and motive you into motion- essentially helping you to burn more calories. With only 2 calories per an 8 ounce serving, peppermint tea will aid in digestion and promote healthy bowel movements. Plus, it’s yummy natural flavor will leave a nice minty aftertaste.

4. Ginger

Ginger is a natural appetite suppressant. By tricking your body into feeling satiated you’ll be less inclined to snacking and overeating. Ginger also helps with digestion, bloating, inflammation, nausea and motion sickness. For thousands of years, the Chinese have used ginger as medicine to ward off common colds and the flu. Many dietitians will recommend not only drinking ginger tea, but blending fresh ginger into your favorite juices. Want a flat tummy? Drink ginger daily.

5. Rooibos

It’s been proven that some weight gain is directly correlated with stress. This South African, low calorie tea is rich in aspalathin, which hinders stress and promotes healthy sleep. This naturally sweet tea is also caffeine free and packed with antioxidants that help fend off free radicals from attacking your DNA-ultimately weakening your cells. Rooibos tea helps soothe upset stomachs and targets inflammation.

Dr. Oz recently did a segment showcasing Rooibos tea and he suggested that by swapping one cup of coffee with one cup of Rooibos tea you can lose up to 7.5 pounds a year. Compared to four cups of coffee a day, per month, to only a two- pound annual loss.

6. Chamomile

Chamomile not only wards off stress and acts as a diuretic, it also helps you sleep, and sleep is pivotal to losing weight. While you are sleeping, your body is producing serotonin, a hormone that suppresses your appetite and thwarts cravings. Chamomile is also known for having high detoxifying qualities; ridding your body of toxins. It can also reduce anxiety, treat eczema and burns.

Chamomile can be enjoyed hot or cold.

As with anything you put in your body, make sure the tea you drink is organic and pesticide free. There are plenty of tea brands out there that contain deadly amounts of toxins. Check out this article to learn more!

Give one of these teas a try! You will be happy you did!
