Overthinking can make you miserable. It leads to anxiety, depression, insomnia, missed opportunities and – well, just unhappiness in general. Put simply, constant overthinking is no way to live.

Of course, ditching the habit is no easy task. For many of us, it’s a deeply rooted issue. As much as we understand the damage associated with excessive thought, we just can’t distance ourselves from it.

That’s where the advice of spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle can help.

Tolle has done his fair share of overthinking. He actually says he was depressed for much of his life before undergoing transformation at the age of 29. A large part of that transformation involved teaching himself to focus on the present moment.

Tolle considers overthinking an addiction and the only way to break that addiction is to practice a state of non-thinking. Over-thinkers need to quiet their over-active minds. He has a great way of explaining it.
