Your body is incredibly unique. The outside can often help give you a look into health issues on the inside. Even something as small as your ears can reveal existing health conditions and even predict health issues that may arise in the future.

Our ears are fully formed when we’re born. They don’t change much after birth with exception to the lobe. The lobe descends slightly as we grow. Every person’s ears are different, which makes them a great way to identify someone. They’re similar to a fingerprint!

Here’s what your ears reveal about you:

1. Recessive Or Dominant Genes

Earlobes that are connected directly to the side of your head are considered to be recessive. Earlobes that hang down beyond the point of attachment – free earlobes – are considered to be a dominant trait.

2. Vitamin Deficiencies

Have you ever noticed that your ears look a little pale? If this is constant, it could mean that your body has a low level of important vitamins such as Vitamin C or Vitamin D. It could also mean that you’re dehydrated.

3. Coronary Artery Disease

The shape of earlobes vary greatly. Some people have a diagonal crease through the bottom of their earlobe. If you have a diagonal earlobe crease, you are more likely to develop coronary artery disease. Doctors have noticed an association, but they aren’t quite sure why.

4. Inflammation

Redness of the ears with inflammation is a sign of another health issue. Inflammation of the cartilage of the ear is a specific symptom of a disease known as relapsing polycondritis. This disease is a chronic disorder of the cartilage.

5. Kidney Problems

The next time you look in a mirror, take a minute to check out your ears! If your ears are red on a regular basis, it could be a sign of an internal health issue. Red ears may be an indicator of kidney problems.

6. Ear Pain

If you frequently have ear pain, the problem might actually be with your mouth. The temporomanidibular joint connects your jaw to bones that sit in front of each ear. Disorders of this joint – TMD and TMJ – can trigger ear pain when you chew, talk or open your mouth wide to yawn or brush your teeth.

7. Brain Disorders

It’s important to pay attention to the color of your ears. While red ears may indicate a kidney problem, ears that are constantly a deep red color could be a sign of something else. If your ears are a deep red color, it could be an indication of memory loss, constant headaches or brain problems.
