The “joy of the mountains” is the perfect name for oregano oil. It was so named by the Greeks since it is native to higher altitudes. Ancient Greeks used oregano oil to treat bacterial infections in wounds, thanks to its natural compounds, while also using it as an additive in food to ward off bacteria. Oregano is still used as a main spice in many Italian dishes. And it was revered so much by the Greeks that brides and grooms wore a crown of Oregano during weddings.
