When you feel a headache coming on, your first reaction might be to reach for a pill bottle. Headaches can be brutal. They’re often accompanied by pain in the eyes, neck, ears and sinuses. That’s why you want to kick the pain before it starts to spread.

The next time you feel a headache coming on, try using a natural method to get rid of it quickly and effectively. Acupressure is a type of massage that has been shown to relieve pressure in the body. To massage acupressure points, first find a comfortable position in which you can relax. Then, massage your chosen pressure point with light touch and circular movements.

To get rid of a headache, massage these six main pressure points:

1. The Yintang Point

The Yintang, also called the third eye, is located between the eyebrows. You can find it in the spot where the bridge of the nose passes into the forehead. It is most effective for getting rid of pain and fatigue in the eyes.

2. Zan Zhu Points

The Zan Zhu points are located at the base of the inner edge of the eyebrows. They are symmetrical points that can help relieve a runny nose and improve vision. Massage these points for one minute by pressing lighting in circular motions.

3. Yingxiang Points

The Yingxiang points are located on both sides of the nostrils. To locate them, feel around for a dimple in the bottom of your cheekbones. These points are in line with the eyes. Massaging them helps to open the sinuses, reduce stress and relieve a headache or toothache.

4. Tian Zhu Points

The Tian Zhu points are located behind your head. You can find them between your ears and the beginning of the spine, at the top of your neck. Massaging these points helps relieve severe headaches and migraines, as well as nasal congestion and pain in the eyes and ears.

5. Shuai Gu Points

The Shuai Gu points are located 2-3 cm from the beginning of the hairline. They sit in the temple area, near a small dimple. Applying pressure to these areas can help relieve eye fatigue and pain in the temporal region.

6. He Gu Points

The He Gu points are symmetrical points located on the back of the hand. They can be found between the thumb and the forefinger. Applying pressure to this area helps relieve back pain, as well as toothache and tension in the neck.
