Junk mail. We all get it and hate it. Many people just throw it in the trash right after getting it. However, what if it could be used to heat a home?

That is exactly what this man is trying to teach us in this short video. He takes junk mail and turns it into a paper log.

What is needed: a couple of buckets, a drill with an old saw blade, some water, and yes, all that junk mail. With just a little effort, one ends up with a free fuel source for the home or outdoors.

It is also an excellent way to make sure no one ever gets a hold of any important information. Identity theft is a big problem. Approximately 15 million U.S. residents will have their identities used fraudulently each year. Average financial losses from identity theft per person are about $3,500. (Identity Theft Info)

It seems like a win, win to me. No more junk mail to throw away, free fuel source, and no way for one’s identity to be stolen via thrown out mail. Also, burning junk mail will save the amount of firewood that needs to be burned. Fewer trees burned equals happier planet! Although, this sure is a backwards way to burn trees and we look forward to the day there is not more junk mail.

Caution:
The dyes and chemicals used in junk mail are very toxic when burned. Do not cook over this fuel source. Also, it can cause chimney problems. Make sure to perform biannual chimney checks and cleanings.
