In the 1600s, renowned philosopher René Descartes referred to the pineal gland as ‘the principal seat of the soul.’ That sentiment is very much alive today; research has proven the pineal gland to be crucial for spiritual health.
Unfortunately, there are many toxins in our modern environment that reduce the gland’s efficiency. One major threat comes from fluoride – a compound found at alarming levels in everyday items like water and toothpaste.

The gland’s benefits primarily come from melatonin – a hormone it secretes. Although many parts of your body produce melatonin, it primarily comes from your pineal gland.

Your circadian rhythm is what helps you wake up and sleep at roughly the same time on a daily basis. This rhythm only works when your pineal gland is secreting melatonin properly. Calcification prevents this by blocking your gland’s pinealocytes – the cells responsible for melatonin secretion.

- Sit in a comfortable, relaxed position.
- Breathe in deeply and notice the fullness of your lungs for as long as you can hold your breath.
- Relax your mind and focus on the sensations in your third eye (the space on your forehead that lies in between your eyes).
- Exhale while you continue to focus on your third eye.
- Repeat this, aiming to increase your awareness as you do. Pay attention to the many sounds and sensations around you.
