Hold my beer while I……ingest liquified gecko corpses?!?!?
This is the literal experience of one California man who’s alleging that, after drinking a can of Heineken beer, he became extremely ill and vomited profusely.
Soon after, his daughter peered inside the beer can only to discover the bodies of 2 geckos at the bottom.
The incident, which George Toubbeh claims occurred back in August 2015, was only just brought to court in a suit filed on Friday.
Why he waited so long to sue is probably just one of many reasons that Heineken isn’t buying George’s accusations.
“We have investigated this isolated claim,” said the company in a statement, “and based on a number of factors, we confidently believe there is no merit to this claim.”
George is also suing the store that sold him the beer, Ralphs, which is owned by Kroger, Co.
Describing the beer as “foul tasting”, George alleges that soon after drinking he felt immense pain inside and began puking, forcing him to visit an emergency room where he was given Xanax and Zofran.
“When discovered,” reads the official lawsuit filed with the Orange County Superior Court, “the geckos had not been decomposed at all and were likely alive when the beer was poured and sealed into the cans in the bottling and/or canning facility.”
Despite this, however, Heineken reiterates their capacity to ensure the highest hygienic norms, saying it “holds the safety and integrity of the products we import to the highest standards.”
George’s attorney, though, disputes this, describing the lawsuit as “meritorious and viable.”
The incident is another reminder of the risks of having your food and beverages prepared anonymously for you by others.
Although these cases are rare, it is reminiscent of a recent story where a disgruntled McDonald’s employee took to his Twitter account to expose the horrifically disgusting conditions of the kitchen.
Here are some of his tweets:
