Every day, women (and men) all around the world use facial cleanser to clean their skin. It’s an important hygiene step we should all take, but is a commercial cleanser the best option?

Unfortunately, many facial cleansers come with a huge list of toxic chemicals that do more harm than good. These include parabens, synthetic colors, fragrance, phthalates, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, formaldehyde, toluene, and propylene glycol. Many of these chemicals can cause allergic reactions, hormone disruption, or even cancer.

However, there are many natural alternatives one can use. These include baking soda, turmeric, and even raw honey!

This is how raw honey works to clean the face, moisturize the skin, and help fight acne!

Antimicrobial – The natural properties of honey work to fight bacteria found on the skin.

Moisturizing – Honey is a natural moisturizer that helps the skin retain moisture even after it is washed off.

Nutrient Rich – Although raw honey is a sugar, it is also full of proteins, amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and probiotics that make their way into the skin and keep it healthy.

How to Use Raw Honey as a Face Scrub!

  1. Get some raw honey. Local sourcing is best, but it is also possible to find organic honey at your nearest health food store.
  2. Pull all your hair back and away from your face and wet face with some water.
  3. Scoop out a nickel sized portion of honey with a spoon and rub the honey on your face with your hands.
  4. Leave on for about 5 to 10 minutes and then wash off!

Honey works for all skin types. However, if you haven’t used honey on your skin before, test it first. Although very uncommon, some people are allergic to certain components found in raw honey.
