According to the World Health Organization there are approximately 12,420 disease categories in the world… out of all of these ailments, humans have only successfully eradicated TWO of them: smallpox and rinderpest (a deadly livestock virus last seen in 2001).
This low “cure” rate is occurring despite the fact that the National Cancer Institute pours $4.9 billion per year into cancer research… an estimated $15.6 billion was spent on HIV/AIDS research in 2008, and that same year $851 million was dedicated to cardiovascular research for heart disease.
With ALL this money being spent each year, why in the world have we made so little progress after so much time and with so many trained professionals working to eradicate these diseases?
