Essential oils have many uses and are beneficial for our bodies in many different ways. However, learning how to use essential oils safely can sometimes be confusing. From topical to ingested, what is the best use for them when it comes to your body? Since consuming essential oils has both negative and positive elements, finding method of incorporating essential oils into your body is a must.

One area of the body that is perfect for applying essential oils is the feet. Here are 3 reasons why you should be applying essential oils to your feet!

1) Less Sensitive

The skin on the soles of the feet is less sensitive than the rest of the body, which makes it a great place to try out essential oils. Using diluted essential oils on the bottom of the feet allows them to be absorbed into the body with less chance of a reaction. This is also the perfect location for using ā€œhotā€ essential oils. Hot essential oils are oils that are known to cause sensitivity in some people. These include citrus essential oils, oregano, and peppermint.

2) Reflexology

It is suggested that every nerve line in the body ends in your feet. Reflexologists believe that areas on the feet correspond to the body’s organs and systems. The left foot corresponds to the left side of the body and all of the organs and valves while the right foot corresponds to the right side of the body. For example, since the liver is on the right side of the body, its reflex point is found on the right foot. (source)

By including essential oils into the art of reflexology for the feet, you may increase the benefits. It may also allow you to target certain areas of the body just by applying them to the feet.

3) Quicker Absorption and Delivery

The pores on the feet are thicker than pores elsewhere on the body. This allows the essential oils to be absorbed more quickly and reach the bloodstream faster. Also, the feet and hands do not have sebaceous glands. Sebum is an oily substance that covers the body and helps waterproof and lubricate the skin. Because the feet and hands are free of it,Ā better absorption is achieved.

There are many different essential oils available for everyday health problems. Check out the list below!

Relaxation

Calming and Soothing oils are great for the feet! They can help promote a more restful night’s sleep. Some great ones are Lavender, Ylang-Ylang, and Roman Chamomile essential oils.

Digestion

Peppermint, clove, and cardamom essential oils may aid in digestion. Since they are considered ā€œhotā€ essential oils, putting them on the feet may eliminate reactions that can occur with them.

Lung Cleansing

During the high pollen times of year, allergies and breathing problems are very common. Some great essential oils for cleansing the lungs and easing allergies are oregano, lavender, and eucalyptus essential oils.

Mixing Essential Oils

Most essential oils should be mixed with a carrier oil. Some great carrier oils are coconut, sweet almond, and jojoba oils. Instructions can be found on essential oil bottles and many suggest a 50/50 mix. When using essential oils on children, I suggest a lower mix of about 2-3% essential oil per carrier oil.

Make sure you also use 100% Therapeutic grade essential oils from a reputable dealer, and if any sensitivity occurs, stop use.

May your feet be happy!
